If Beale Street Could Talk

Directed by Barry Jenkins

Starring: Kiki Layne, Stephan James, Regina King

This is a love story about a couple Tish (Kiki Layne) & Fonny (Stephan James) in Harlem in the early 1970’s. Most film shows the early adult years of the young couple striving to be together and the obstacles that get in their way of happiness; most infamously when Fonny goes to jail for a crime it seems he didn’t commit. A strong performance by Kiki Layne and Stephen James, Oscar nominee Regina Kingnplays Tish’s mother Sharon. One of the major things I felt that took away from the film was the scenes going back & forth between present & past, and some scenes just didn’t make sense to be in the movie. The music scenes also took away from the plot; it just felt over saturated and made the film longer than it should’ve been. The Plot was very dull, I left with more questions than answers
